Last weekend was spent in Spokane...well one day of it anyway. Sarah had planned to stay in Spokane all day due to some Mary Kay stuff she had to do. I had heard from Mom that there were some WWII aircraft hanging out at the airport, and here was my opportunity to see them. It would have been nice if we had planned the day out more, but then it would not be Sarah and me, if it were. The kids and I took Sunset Boulevard, after dropping Sarah off. I'm sure they did not get as much out of it as I, but I do think there is more going by, closer to the old road than on the freeway. They seemed to enjoy themselves. So, on the old Navy airfield side, a touring B-24, B-17G, B-25J, and TP-51C, had stopped for the weekend. I thought the kids would be scared, but they were just a little timid, and we looked to enter the hangar (looking for restrooms). Rileigh would not go in the door. She told me that she cannot go in there. So, we wandered around outside, and did not get the "up close" experience. -we did find a port-a-poty, that was accessible too I might add. The good thing, for me, was that they were giving rides to paying customers, so were were able to catch them starting up and taking off. The twins were interested in everything that was moving fast, just not impressed with the noise of the jets.
After watching the B-17 and B-24 land, we headed for Riverfront park. The kids loved the falls, and were having a good time on the playground near the Y. The kids wanted to ride the train that roves the paths -maybe next time. We then headed for the large wagon-slide, which took us by the carousel. Rileigh was not going to get on the flying horses, nor was she going to walk near it. But since I told her we were going around it, that was OK, and the trek continued. The goat slowed them for a while as well, especially Ethan. He picked up leaves and anything he could find (not just garbage) to feed the goat. They had a good time on the slide, but we had to move on, making a large circle route by walking past the opera house. We got back to the car to be 20min late to pick up Sarah. After getting Sarah, we stopped by Carl's Jr. and were back on the road heading toward the setting sun. The twins were out before Sprague Lake. And the sunset was impressive. I like trips like that, I hope the kids are impressed as well.
